Spatial religious metaphors

In religious thought, all metaphors have tradeoffs, but spatial metaphors (worlds, realms, spheres, planes, abodes, horizons) might have tradeoffs we can no longer afford to make. We’ve relied on them for too long, so that we are no longer aware that anything is being traded off, or sometimes even that we are using metaphors.
