I think I know what you mean. About half of the Migraines I have had have not really been painful, at least not in the normal sense. Instead for me it has always been an odd sense of displacement combined with extreme sensitivity to sounds and lights, even ideas and thoughts have a distinct twinge that accompanies them.
What you are describing is what is known as an “aura”
Not in the mystic sense, rather it’s a sort of separate and generally preceding experience to the Migraine itself which is the period extending from the onset to cessation of the Migraine, that being the period of sensitivity.
You should be glad if yours only last a short time, some of mine have stretched days and it’s a nightmare from which neither sleep nor escape of any sort are options.
Heavy painkillers help…a little, but really it isn’t normal pain so they can only help so much.
The main advantage of the former in my experience is mostly just that they will probably knock me out, but that doesn’t mean it will be peaceful slumber.
I do feel very fortunate. The only physical sensation I have is just pressure in my head and also, strangely, around my middle. Whenever I feel like my belt is too tight I know I’ll start losing vision within the hour. The blindness usually lasts somewhere around an hour then goes away.
Are you sure it’s a migraine? I mean has it been diagnosed? not that a Doctor would necessarily be able to do a better job than you would, in the case of most people I mean it’s a good idea to have a professional check these things out…Although Diagnosis is a semiotic process and somehow I suspect you are probably as if not more thorough than a general practitioner would be.
ONE way to determine if in fact this is a migraine would be through treatment at the onset of the next one.
There IS believe it or not an Ergot based medication (very expensive) specifically for the disorder. I am pretty sure a Doctor would prescribe you a small amount in the interest of obtaining a definitive diagnosis. It’s an ‘Abortive’ medication, meaning that it cancels out the migraine. If it didn’t work you could pretty much rule out migraine entirely, because as I understand it , it’s the end all for migraines.
My migraines (or whatever that aura blindness is) always end within an hour so it would be hard to know if the medicine ended it or if it went away on its own.
Did it become a corporate logo?
I don’t think I would forget that one easily.
That’s terrible that you are having migraines, I hope you feel better soon.
My migraines are mostly ocular. They aren’t really headeaches, so it’s not so terrible.

Just a few thoughts for you.
