The variety of category mistake I’ve been trying to name might best be called a deictic mistake.
My old asterisk/star symbol attempts to convey a conception of transcendence that could be called deictic transcendence.

TIL that deixis is a subtype of indexicality: https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Deixis#/Deixis_and_indexicality
I was familiar with the latter, but not the former.
I might be misusing this term. I’m looking for a compact term to indicate position one takes to an artifact. Do you stand outside it, get inside it, look at it, see from it?… that same set of questions the postphenomenologists are asking about technological devices. Maybe situational error is still better. Somehow seeing deixis as primarily about establishing a who/what/when that orients a statement that might otherwise be ambiguous makes the meaning I am trying to convey fall apart for me again. And the etymology does not help. What I’m concerned with keeps reminding me of set theory. Maybe I’ll look into the vocabulary of set theory and see if there are any borrowables there. If not there, maybe topography.
